Self-Esteem Smells Like Napalm

It's the clip during reality shows that occurs so frequently it is as standard an edit as opening credits.

Some poor deluded fool stares straight into the camera and insists that all the criticism the other contestants and the judges are pouring on him or her is nothing less than jealousy.

These poor schmucks are so bloated with self-esteem that they can not step back and objectively view their own behavior - even in the face of overwhelming evidence.

"Know Thyself" is one of the earliest tenets of Western Civilization and yet rather than examine our own shortcomings and accurately assess them, rather than helping our children hone their talents by acknowledging what they can and can not do, we worship the cult of self-esteem.

And how often does it blow up in our faces? How often do those poor misjudging contestants end up voted off the show because they have no tools to redirect their talents, their actions, even their words. Blinded by years of reinforcement, their metasized self-esteem leads them to self-implosion.

The long-term results of a short-term idea. The idea of "let's not hurt Johnny's feelings with reality - he face it later", is lazy parenting. It comes from the same laziness as "He'll learn about religion later, I don't want to force my views on him." Congratulations, you've raised an atheist with no moral compass.

Suck it up and give yourself and your kids a cold dose of reality every now and again. Sure, it's cold but only for a moment. Unchecked self-esteem always leads to burning and lifelong scars.

The good Doctor-Reverand has a dream, not a whine.

I think this sentence from a New York Post article titled, "Paterson Whines: Racism" sums it all up.

Paterson cited critical stories about his late-night partying at a Chelsea nightclub on the eve of a painful budget announcement as proof of the media's bias.

Racism is when SEIU thugs beat up an African-American for being conservative and no media outlet covers it. Racism is when MSNBC films a man legally carrying a rifle to a protest and claims it is an example of white racism.

Racism is not someone criticizing your bad decisions as governor. The race card is fraying into meaninglessness because its been whipped out so often.

And yet, perhaps that is a good thing. For once the race card is completely devalued, we can move past victimhood and into something far more productive - personal responsibility for everyone.

Obama's Rendition

Thank goodness we are getting all that hope and change.

HA! The LA Times has this article up about Obama's first known redition case of a Lebanese man who the government alleges committed fraud. The LA Times buried the description of how the man was treated but once you read it, you realize President George W. Bush wasn't so bad...

In court papers, Azar said he was denied his eyeglasses, not given food for 30 hours and put in a freezing room after his arrest by "more than 10 men wearing flak jackets and carrying military style assault rifles."

Azar also said he was shackled and forced to wear a blindfold, dark hood and earphones for up to 18 hours on a Gulfstream V jet that flew him from Bagram air base, outside Kabul, to Virginia.

Before the hood was put on, he said, one of his captors waved a photo of Azar's wife and four children and warned Azar that he would "never see them again" unless he confessed.

"Frightened for his immediate safety . . . and under the belief he would end up in the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay or Abu Ghraib to be tortured," Azar signed a paper he did not understand, his lawyers told the court.

Prosecutors, however, said that Azar was "treated professionally," kept in a heated room, offered food and water repeatedly and "provided with comfortable chairs to sit in."

They said he was photographed naked and subjected to a cavity search to ensure that he did not carry hidden weapons and was fit for travel. Court records confirmed that Azar was shackled at the ankles, waist and wrists and made to wear a blindfold, hood and earphones aboard the plane.

Prosecutors also said that FBI agents read Azar his rights against self-incrimination on three occasions, and that he "voluntarily" waived them.

Perhaps this is how redition for known terrorists work (and quite frankly I'm fine with that) but this is a fraud case with a "maximum of five years in prison, but a sentence of 2 1/2 years or less is likely under federal guidelines." Seems strangely ham-handed.

The LA Times shows it got its journalistic instincts from The Big Book of DUH with this article titled, "Obama's healthcare messages are backfiring, strategists say, The president's range of abstract arguments for reform are leaving people confused, some Democrats contend."It should be patently obvious that Obama is drowning in his own flailing spin on Obamacare because it is such a bad idea. Bad policy begets bad strategy. And by the way, why is strategy more important than actual good idea?

Jim Towey from the Wall Street Journal explains how Obama resurrected "The Death Book for Veterans." Don't our Veterans deserve better. President Bush thought so when he crushed this book that was written in 1997 but Obama has this death-fixation (dead babies, dead grandmothers, Death Panels, dead everyone really)... Meanwhile, in Brazil, India, China, Japan, and much of continental Europe the recession has ended. In the second quarter this year, both the French and German economies grew by 0.3 percent, while the U.S. economy shrank by 1 percent. How can that be? Unlike America, France and Germany had no government stimulus worth speaking of, the Germans declining to go the Obama route on the quaint grounds that they couldn’t afford it. They did not invest in the critical signage-in-front-of-holes-in-the-road sector. And yet their recession has gone away. Of the world’s biggest economies, only the U.S., Britain, and Italy are still contracting. All three are big stimulators, though Gordon Brown and Silvio Berlusconi can’t compete with Obama’s $800 billion porkapalooza. The president has borrowed more money to spend to less effect than anybody on the planet.

Charles Lipson over at the Chicago Tribune is promoting an inexpensive solution to healthcare reform that I've been supporting as well (here), "Let insurance companies compete across U.S." From his article...

The easiest way to see how insurance competition benefits consumers is to look at auto insurance. That's a huge, nationwide market and companies compete intensively for a share of it. Some stress their low prices, others customer service, whatever gives them an edge in the marketplace. Geico and Progressive have been especially aggressive in touting cost savings. State Farm and Allstate certainly compete on price, but they stress service after an accident. That's why Allstate says "you're in good hands," and State Farm says it will be there "like a good neighbor." Other companies, like SafeAuto, focus on drivers who want only minimum coverage to meet state license requirements. In short, auto insurance companies compete vigorously to provide what different consumers want, and they tell them so in national advertisements. Life insurance companies do the same thing. There are even companies that specialize in comparing policies for customers. Competition drives down excess profits and means better, cheaper options for consumers.

Ever see an ad touting health insurance? They are rare because the markets are small and companies don't need to compete aggressively on price or service. Introducing such competition would be good for consumers, wouldn't require another Washington bureaucracy and could be done quickly.

Obviously, small changes like this wouldn't solve the myriad problems with America's health-care system. But modesty can be a virtue. In fact, Americans typically favor incremental steps to solve big problems rather than top-down, technocratic plans, which are far more common in France or Germany.

Actually I hate the taking on of -gate to any scandal. It is lazy and keeps the mentality that every new thing is a re-hash of an old event. It supports baby-boomer navel gazing and I simply abhor that too.

So let's just call this yet another Obomination (get it like abomination except its Obama). Okay, maybe that's lame too. At any rate, the latest scandal/corroption/abuse of power is the use of email and sending unwanted emails to unsuspecting people.

In a nut shell, Obama has been caught lying again. They allowed Govdelivery, a large email company, to send out the emails to anyone's email address they had. Then when people complained, Obama lied.

When your knee-jerk reaction to any complaint or accusation is to lie, eventually the pile of lies is too high for even the most ardent supporter. Obama risks his own political life and the careers of every democrat who supports him if he can't control his lying and starts 'fessing up.

Two things, first openmarket is associated with my husband's think tank, Competitive Enterprise Institute.

Second and more importantly, when you go to the site you will find an article where each and every claim made is linked to supporting evidence. This kind of meticulous "proofing" of each and every claim is something I appreciate in conservative and libertarian writing. And while some links lead to other openmarket.org articles (that are equally well "proofed") many others link to pieces from the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Examiner.

Earlier, other legal experts and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights criticized major provisions of ObamaCare, such as its affirmative-action and racial preferences, and its intrusive regulation of medicine, as being unconstitutional.

The President yesterday repeated his false claim that ObamaCare will not cover illegal aliens. But it effectively will cover illegal aliens, if they want coverage, as many commentators have explained, including think-tanks like the Heritage Foundation, legal experts, publications like National Review, and syndicated columnists. (Most other countries do not provide national health insurance for illegal immigrants.)

Obama’s credibility is further undermined by his long line of broken promises, such as his pledge to enact a “net spending cut,” which he broke through budgets that will explode the national debt through $9.3 trillion in massively increased deficit spending.

Nine Trillion Dollars. That's how much the nonpartisan CBO is predicting the United States of America will be in debt in the next 10 years unless we stop this mad spending.

This alone should kill every single policy bill Obama and Congress have proposed to date.

And please note in this Reuter's article, here, they did everything possible to "hide" that nine trillion dollar amount and make Obama look fiscally responsible.

But how can anyone look good who has taken our debt from roughly $600 million (which includes the cost of 2 wars and the first bailout that Obama himself supported) to 1.58 Trillion in nine months?

That kind of fiscal incompetence with taxpayer money is tantamount to theft. And it's not just stealing our money right now. It is theft of our future earnings. It is theft of our children's future. It is theft of our country's future.

Obama and his co-horts should be ashamed.

Wow, Rich! Don't hold back or anything.

Rich Lowry has a post up titled "Stupid Nation, Just how stupid do they think we are?" that points out just how stupid we Americans are. Go, Rich, Go!

Stupid enough to think that a new $1 trillion health-care entitlement is just the thing to restore the country to fiscal health.

Stupid enough not to know that almost every entitlement known to man has cost more than originally estimated, with a congressional committee in 1967 underestimating by a factor of ten Medicare’s cost by 1990.

Stupid enough not to realize that it is through budget trickery — the taxes begin immediately, the spending is put off for a few years — that the program in the House shows “only” a $239 billion deficit over the first ten years.

Stupid enough not to worry that Obama’s proposed superteam of technocrats operating outside normal political controls — the so-called Independent Medicare Advisory Council — will resort to rationing when costs continue to spiral upward.

Stupid enough to consider it wise to use several billion dollars in cuts from Medicare to create a new entitlement rather than to forestall Medicare’s own looming insolvency, currently projected for 2017.

Stupid enough not to notice that the “public option” was explicitly designed by the Left as a stealthy path to single-payer, even as liberals continue to talk and write about its ultimate purpose openly.

Stupid enough to believe that we’ll be able to keep our current health-care arrangements if we like them, even though the public option could throw tens of millions of people out of private insurance.

Stupid enough to trust the same people who came up with the public option as stealth single-payer to craft a co-op provision that isn’t a stealth public option.

Believe it or not, but Mr. Lowry goes on. The above is just a small sample of this magnificent rant against liberal elitism. Enjoy.

Obamacare of Illegal Immigrants

Mark Krikorian of Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) has a post up, here, at National Review explaining how Obamacare - while not outright allowing coverage for illegal immigrants - has no real protection against illegal immigrants using a universal US healthcare system.

This is a well-linked and reasonable post worth reading.

Transcending Nothing

Jonah Goldberg's column titled "A Deck Stacked with Race Cards" is a terrific and devestating critque of the fallacy of Obama and his minions "transcending" race.

Jonah gives example after example with his trademark wit and grace.

Two weeks ago, town hallers were supposed to be members of the Brooks Brothers brigade, Astroturf division. Now they’re well-armed anti-government militias. At this rate, they’ll soon be android ninjas with laser vision. Wait, strike that. They’ll be really racist android ninjas with laser vision.

Suddenly, if conservatives want to transcend race, we have to agree to massive increases in the size of government and socialized medicine.

That’s not transcending race, it’s using Obama’s race to bully the opposition into acquiescence. Actually transcending race would require treating Obama like any other president. Which is pretty much exactly what conservatives have been doing. Seriously, if Hillary Clinton were president, would conservatives really be rolling over for the same health-care plan because she’s white?

Sure, racists don’t like Obama. (In less shocking news, bears continue to use our national forests as toilets.) But that doesn’t mean everyone who dislikes Obama is therefore a racist.

What’s dismaying is how the press and Democrats are so desperate to obscure this point. The only notable political violence at a town hall was against a black man, roughed up by pro-Obama toughs. The assault weapon lawfully carried to a demonstration was carried by a black man. That supposedly racist poster depicting Obama as the Joker? (An LA Weekly writer fumed, “The only thing missing is a noose.”) That was created by a Palestinian-American supporter of left-wing garden gnome Dennis Kucinich. Whoops!

Middle Class Ain’t Expecting Obama’s Promised Tax Cut

(Jack Fowler's comment at the end of this NRO post made me laugh out loud. So I share it with you.)

Out today: “A new Gallup Poll finds that 68% of Americans believe their federal income taxes will be higher by the time Barack Obama's first term as president ends. This includes 35% who say their taxes will be ‘a lot higher.’ ” The survey does report 9% of Americans think they will get a tax cut (yes, the from the forthcoming pet-unicorn deduction!).

Cameron on the Lockerbie Bomber Release

British Conservative party leader David Cameron has issued some very strong statements on the Scottish government's release of the Lockerbie bomber. You can see him calling the decision "nonsensical" here and read his letter to the prime minister here. The fact that Miliband has been so mealey-mouthed and Brown utterly silent shows how pathetic Her Majesty's Government is at the moment. Their attack on Daniel Hannan as "unpatriotic" for warning Americans against a British-style health-care system showed the truth of Dr. Johnson's adage. But now they meekly allow a convicted enemy of the British people to go home; these scoundrels don't even have patriotism to turn to any more.

Obama's DoJ Corruption

President Obama needs to clear the air. As a former law professor who specialized in voting rights, he is aware of how important even-handed application of the law is to election integrity. In 2007, then-Sen. Obama introduced a bill to protect Americans from tactics that intimidate voters. It also increased the criminal penalty for voter intimidation to five years in prison from one year.

"There is no place for politics in this debate," he testified before Mr. Conyers's committee in March, 2007. "Both parties at different periods in our history have been guilty in different regions of preventing people from voting for a tactical advantage. We should be beyond that."

One way to get there is for Mr. Obama to insist his Justice Department reinstate the Black Panther case or provide a full explanation for why it was dropped.

As much as Obama would like this to go away, I do not think it is going to. The Wall Street Journal has been banging on this New Black Panther story for awhile and now Congressional members are joining in. From John Fund's piece, titled "Holder's Black Panther Stonewall, Why did the Justice Department dismiss such a clear case of voter intimidation?" comes the above quote.

SleazeBall Ted (again)

I was born and Boston and raised liberal. The Kennedys were sacrosanct (although when I told my mother about the Dead Kennedy band she did laugh).

So the realization that the Kennedy clan are so corrupt and that Ted Kennedy has been a sleazeball for decades was slow to dawn on me. This below from an editorial in the Wall Street Journal titled, "What Ted Kennedy Wants." seems to be yet another example of why the Kennedy myth should die.

What Mr. Kennedy doesn't volunteer is that he orchestrated the 2004 succession law revision that now requires a special election, and for similarly partisan reasons. John Kerry, the other Senator from the state, was running for President in 2004, and Mr. Kennedy wanted the law changed so the Republican Governor at the time, Mitt Romney, could not name Mr. Kerry's replacement. "Prodded by a personal appeal from Senator Edward M. Kennedy," reported the Boston Globe in 2004, "Democratic legislative leaders have agreed to take up a stalled bill creating a special election process to replace U.S. Senator John F. Kerry if he wins the presidency." Now that the state has a Democratic Governor, Mr. Kennedy wants to revert to gubernatorial appointments.

The man has a brain tumor but refuses to unclench his grip on power despite being a top Senate Crypt-Keeper to the tune of 47 years? Revolting.

Daily Obamacare Round-up 08-21

WASHINGTON – Outside the Veterans Affairs Department, severely wounded veterans have faced financial hardship waiting for their first disability payment. Inside, money has been flowing in the form of $24 million in bonuses.

In scathing reports this week, the VA's inspector general said thousands of technology office employees at the VA received the bonuses over a two-year period, some under questionable circumstances. It also detailed abuses ranging from nepotism to an inappropriate relationship between two VA employees.

The above is from an AP report on YahooNews titled, "As vets await checks, VA workers get $24M bonuses." I wonder if Obama is going to fire this IG? Let's face it, scandals like this don't inspire confidence in creating even larger government-run healthcare programs.

The government has had its chance to run healthcare for our Veterns, our elderly, and our poorest of poor and has done a DISMAL job with all three. Why on earth should we trust them with the healthcare for all Americans when they've had decades to practice with these three groups and failed, failed, failed?

This Wall Street Journal op-ed explains, "Health 'Co-ops' Are Government Care, The Democrats' latest proposal bears no resemblance to the voluntary organizations that are known as cooperatives." 'Death panels' in sheep's clothing?

Michelle Malkin's anti-corruption crusade continues as she describes how only the insurance and pharmaceutical companies that are NOT lining Team Obama's pockets are bad in this New York Post article titled, "CORPORATE SHILLS FOR 'CHANGE'"

Heather Richardson Higgins is calling for "No Compromise on Health 'Reform,' Why the GOP should resist all entreaties to be 'bipartisan.'" in this Wall Street Journal op-ed. Let's face it, compromise on crap is still crap.

From The Washington Examiner, "Heather Heidelbaugh: Obama is governing as a community organizer." She closes with an observation that should have been obvious to all MSM journalists, "Despite the smooth talk and charisma, Obama adopted the beliefs and tactics of the organization he helped grow into a mighty tree. You want to understand the real Obama? Understand ACORN." Duh.

"How Obama miscalculated on health care." is the title from this Fortune Magazine article reviewing the political decisions Obama will face in the fall - "Obama is trying to walk a tightrope on this question, but the rope is really too thin to walk."

Want a preview of ObamaCare in action? Sneak a look at what has happened in Maine. In 2003, the state to great fanfare enacted its own version of universal health care. Democratic Governor John Baldacci signed the plan into law with a bevy of familiar promises. By 2009, it would cover all of Maine's approximately 128,000 uninsured citizens. System-wide controls on hospital and physician costs would hold down insurance premiums. There would be no tax increases. The program was going to provide insurance for everyone and save businesses and patients money at the same time.

After five years, fiscal realities as brutal as the waves that crash along Maine's famous coastline have hit the insurance plan. The system that was supposed to save money has cost taxpayers $155 million and is still rising.

A Virginia-based gun rights group has taken issue with the Democrat-led healthcare proposals, saying that the proposed plans could strip citizens of their rights to own a gun.

The above is the opening paragraph to a TheHill.com website post titled "Gun rights, control groups find fight in health debate." Like Obama wants those two groups to get together.

At Politico.com, Charles Mahtesian writes about Charlie Cooke's take "Dem situation has 'slipped completely out of control'" Like they had "control" over the American People. People, all politicians are supposed to REPRESENT in this country, not control.

"Pelosi Says ‘No Way’ Health Plan Can Pass Without Public Option" over at Bloomberg.com. Interesting. Because there is "no way" Obamacare will pass with it either. And if it does, there is also "no way" politicians who voted for it will have a political career afterwards.

What Did They Expect?

"UK condemns celebrations for Lockerbie bomber."

What did these "humanitarians" expect? That by releasing the first major (successful) airline bomber, the Libyans would be all respectful and quiet? They won, you lost by letting that murderer go.

"The sight of a mass murderer getting a hero's welcome in Tripoli is deeply upsetting, deeply distressing, above all for the 270 families who grieve every day for the loss of their loved ones 21 years ago," British Foreign Secretary David Miliband told BBC Radio.

It is "deeply distressing" for a lot freakin' more than those poor families, Miliband! When I first heard the British government was letting this man free, my thoughts were in this order:

1) Typical stupid socialist thing to do.

2) This is punishment for Obama's ham-handed treatment of our closest Ally. Damn stupid socialist.

3) This is only going to encourage the other terrorists because even letting the man go after 20 years in prison looks weak to terrorists who think nothing of beheading a person because they are a homosexual or a woman.

And what is with that, by the way? Why do Liberals believe that Conservatives hate gays and women when it is the Conservatives who believe we should fight the terrorists/Islamo-Fascist who think all Westerners are "pig dogs" because we tolerate/accept homosexuals and women rights?

It's like hating a soldier who is fighting for freedom. Your freedom. Islamic homosexual's freedom to exist. A woman's right not to have her genitals sliced off. You know, fighting for little freedoms like that.

So the socialist elite of Great Britain decide to be "humanitarian" and then wring their hands when the terrorists celebrate their weakness. The man deserved to be put to death 20 years ago for the murder of 270 men, woman, and children.

It's too late to be "deeply distressed", now you're gonna have to brace for impact.
