Taxpayers vs. Bureaucrats, Part XXVIII
You might think I would be past the point of being surprised about excessive pay for bureaucrats, especially after narrating the new video for the Center for Freedom and Prosperity, but even I’m shocked by this New York Times story about bloated pay for bureaucrats at New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority. More than 8,000 of them pull in six-figure compensation packages, and 50 of them get more than $200,000. By the way, don’t snicker and think this is just a problem for NYC taxpayers. Thanks to federal subsidies, folks all across America are paying for this taxpayer ripoff.
Read on if you dare.

Salt Regulations Are Racist

Are these attempts at salt regulation racist? Well, what about religious groups that use salt for the purification and preservation of their food. Cured pork products are vital to many ethnic groups cooking styles, including African-Americans and Eastern Europeans. Kosher meat can not be Kosher without salt. It is entirely dependent on salt for its purification. Without salty soy and fish sauces, there is no Chinese food, Japanese food, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Korean, etc., etc. What do these salt regulators have against Jewish and Asian people?

Isn't it racist to regulate a food so vital to a particular religious or ethnic group? And if these ingredients get an exemption then what's the point of the regulation to begin with?

Okay, the "racist" claim was just fun (or was it), my real beef with salt regulations are as follows. Let's be clear, compared to our pre-refridgeration days, we eat tiny amounts of salt and we need salt to survive.

My principle concern is these "regulations" are the camel's nose under the tent. Once they start banning salt in food industry products and restaurant food, what is to stop them from regulating the use of salt in our homes?

And who could go without salt. I would like to see that. I'd like to see someone go completely without salt for more than a week without some kind of bodily harm. No salt means no tofu or soy based products. No yogurt, no cheese, no processed dairy of any kind. No bread, no pasta, no cold breakfast cereals of any kind including granola. No pickles, no condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup), no deli meats, certain vineagers, no ham, no bacon, no processed foods of any kind, no restaurant foods of any kind.

Basically you are looking at a diet of plain veggies, fruit, meat, and unproccessed carbs like baked potato or rice (no salt in the cooking water by the way).

Think that is doable? Then try to eat a Sushi dinner without salt. You can't eat the miso soup, nor ginger dressing on the salad, and no soy sauce or wasabi on the sushi. Oh and better make sure that sushi rice is unseasoned cause you can't have rice there either. Better stick with plain sashimi and some lettuce. Enjoy.

These anti-salt idiots can go without if they choose but they should stop forcing their crap on us. And that's the gist of it, isn't it. These salt regulations are designed to control us.

The funny thing is, I'm not crazy pro-salt either. But I worked in restaurants, in the kitchen, for years. I reviewed restaurants in college and I am an accomplished home chef. Yet, I tend to cook without as little salt as possible, discourage my children from eating (too much) salt, and do not purchase a lot of processed foods. You will find, however, that I have five different salts in my house - nearly all were purchased more than a year ago. I'm not anti-salt by any means but I am not a salt addict either.

To me, this attack on salt, is an example of politicians who are not experts impacting entire industries because of a few bogus lobbiests. Many of the anti-salt studies are funding by dubious groups. Groups that actively campaign for policies that would remove our choice of foods. Hypertension is not entirely salt's fault. There are genetic, lifestyle and even environmental links as well as a diet high in salt. If you have hypertension, you can choose to eat low sodium foods. There are plenty of products on the market for that.

But if these pols succeed in regulating salt, then it takes away the right to choose from all of us. My neighbor has very low blood pressure, he is concerned about this salt restrictions because he needs salt to keep his blood pressure up. His wife is a personal chef who could be put out of business if a salt regulation requires her to have her recipes testing for salt content.

There are so many impacts to this regulation attacking salt, when the simpliest solution would be to provide tax credits to food companies who provide a line of low-sodium foods. The market will decide if they want to purchase it and the food industry can adjust its ways accordingly.

Additionally, it is the personal responsibility of each human being to make good nutritional choices for their body and lifestyle. Just like the women in the early feminist movement who shouted "Keep Government Off My Body" during the abortion rights movement, I want the government both off my body and out of my pantry.

Finally, and as I mentioned above, I think we can all agree on the importance of personal responsibility AND that the more you know the better. I worry about forcing smaller businesses like family-owned restaurants and my friend the personal chef having to pay for their recipes to be analyzed for salt content because that would put them out of business. But once your business reaches a certain distribution point, it makes sense to let consumers know.

As for existing companies, that information has been there on the side of the box for decades. This is nanny-statism which can be traced back to the success of the tobacco lawsuits and is gaining boldness thanks to Obamacare. We are Americans and we have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness whether that means healthy eating and jogging five miles a week or stuffing your face with hamburgers. It's your responsibilty to take care of yourself, not the State's.

Something For Nothin'

When I put the pieces together it seems as though the Obama administration has hit a new depth to their incompetency.

Yes, his foreign policies are incompetent. Yes, his domestic policies are incompetent. And yes, his crisis reactions are profoundly incompetent.

But now it appears that his alleged "job offers" are incompetent as well.

Let's take a look, shall we? And we'll start in an unusual place - Blago.

Yes, Rod Blagojevich. Why? Because here is the first public instance where Obama and his team could have made a "smooth horse trade" but because they wanted something for nothing, they ticked off a wild card - Hot Rod.

First we have this taped quote
“I want to make money,” the 53-year-old, bushy haired Democrat says in a telephone discussion of the seat with a lobbyist friend taped in November 2008, according to an FBI affidavit.

“I’ve got this thing and it’s (expletive) golden, and I’m just not giving it up for (expletive) nothing,” he is quoted as saying on tape"
Now you could say that was just Blago shopping around for bribes but the Obama administration was contacted and was "involved":
In fact, there are indications that Mr. Obama and his team refused to go along with the "pay to play" way Blagojevich is accused of operating, offering only "gratitude" if the governor appointed his friend Valerie Jarrett to take his U.S. Senate seat, much to the governor's chagrin.
Yes, you could look at it as only "gratitude" or you could look at it as incompetence in knowing who you are dealing with. I mean Obama and Blago go way, way back -
And, it should be pointed out, Mr. Obama has a relationship with Mr. Blagojevich, having not only endorsed Blagojevich in 2002 and 2006, but having served as a top adviser to the Illinois governor in his first 2002 run for the state house.
AND
On the Chicago TV show "Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz" on June 27, 2002, state Sen. Obama said, "Right now, my main focus is to make sure that we elect Rod Blagojevich as Governor, we..."

"You working hard for Rod?" interrupted Berkowitz.

"You betcha," said Obama.

"Hot Rod?" asked the host.

"That's exactly right," Obama said.
Blagojevich is going down swinging and wants Obama to testify at his trial to protect Blago from Rezko. But let's face it, Obama isn't going to touch that with a ten-foot pole if he can avoid it. Blagojevich sends not-so-subtle message to Obama

So we can see that the expectation of "pay to play" was clearly there but Obama wanted something for nothing and rejected Blogo's requests. After knowing "Hot Rod" for more than six years, you'd have thought Obama would have expected something like this.

Then we move on to Andrew Romanoff, who claims the Obama administration offered him a "position" in return for dropping out of the race.
Romanoff on Wednesday night released a copy of an e-mail in which White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina described three federal international development jobs that might be available to him if he were not challenging Sen. Michael Bennet for the Democratic nomination.

"He added that he could not guarantee my appointment to any of these positions," Romanoff said in a statement. "At no time was I promised a job, nor did I request Mr. Messina's assistance in obtaining one."
Okay, I believe you could argue that here again is another attempt at "pay to play" going wrong. Now in both cases, one could argue that these are examples of the Obama administration refusing to bribe. I'd respond that they are not so much refusing to bribe but rather attempting to haggle. Badly. Reminds me of the apocryphal Churchill exchange:
Churchill: Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?
Socialite: My goodness, Mr. Churchill... Well, I suppose... we would have to discuss terms, of course...
Churchill: Would you sleep with me for five pounds?
Socialite: Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!
Churchill: Madam, we've already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.
Which brings us to Rep. Sestak. Memo elevates ‘Offer-gate’ to full-blown scandal As reported,
In February, Rep. Joe Sestak was asked a seemingly innocuous question by local Philadelphia television host Larry Kane: “Were you ever offered a job to get out of this race?” Sestak’s answer, and the unflinching manner in which he delivered it, are now infamous. “Yes,” he said, swift and surely. Kane pressed. “So you were offered a job by someone in the White House?” “Yes,” the answer came again. What Sestak was describing is a felony—18 USC 600 makes it a crime for anyone to offer a federal job, position, or appointment in exchange for a political act.

Bauer’s memo admits that a conversation took place between Sestak and former president Bill Clinton at the behest of the administration; and admits that Clinton and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had discussed the possibility of finding a place for Sestak on a presidential advisory board in return for his agreement not to challenge Sen. Arlen Specter in the Democratic primary. But the memo excuses the offer as legal because the advisory role the administration envisioned for the congressman would have been uncompensated. The law makes no such distinction, and the memo’s reliance on this erroneous interpretation only heightens the contradictions between what Sestak has been saying for months, and what the Obama administration has refused to discuss until now.
So yet again and assuming this is true, an incompetent Obama administration demonstrates that they wanted something for nothing by offering an unpaid position to a man running for the Senate.

Why would Sestak accept such an offer when he is a Congressman already? Why would he leave his Congressional seat for an unpaid advisory role or take on the role in addition to his regular "job"? To give up a chance to win a Senate seat from a Spector, a man who's party allegiance is dubious at best?

Did the Obama administration wanted something for nothing, or is this a lie? Either way, it is incompetent.

Clearly Obama has demonstrated what I've been saying since 2008 - that a freshman Senator does not have the competency to run America. Personally, I prefer governors since they've had the "test run" experience at the state level.

It is bad enough that Obama is incompetent in his job, but that he is also incompetent in the "Chicago Way" is pathetic. What can that man get right?

Zo Hits Back At Bill

And quite rightly Maher's comment was dispicable and vile, wrong and racist.

Below is from AlfonZo Rachel's Facebook page (here):
This is a bit of a departure for me, as I prefer to do rants, but by the time it gets done, Bill Snot bucket Maher and his comments will be worth talking about even less than they already are.
So, I called him snot Bucket. He is snotty. You know he's snotty.

This commentary comes out of Bill Maher saying, ""I thought when we elected a black ... See Morepresident, we were going to get a black president. You know, this [BP oil spill] is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt so you can see the gun in his pants. That's -- (in black man voice) 'we've got a motherfu**ing problem here?' Shoot somebody in the foot."

Now despite all the PC stuff, the left wing still proves to be the ones doing the majority of the stereotyping.

I'm pretty sure they had a medic on stand by and extra ready in case Maher's guts ruptured from him using more testosterone than he ever has in his life to try to pull off his best "black" impression.

This is what black people are to Bill Maher. This is what we're supposed to be. Gun toting thugs, and if we're not, then we're just docile uncle toms who wanna be white.

Truth is, there is no behavior that could satisfy Bill Maher because he's a racist, and just a very confused individual all together.

He's pro-gun-control, yet he wants the president to brandish a weapon, at the table with BP,

but when it comes to dealing with our enemies; the ones who get a special thrill up their leg when they cut off the heads of jews in particularly,

well no - those are the ones we should just have talks with.

I don't pay much mind to Bill Maher; a bitter cynic who's vein's pump with spoiled milk, and just another patronizing racist.

I've seen his show before. I know what it is. I've come to the conclusion that i don't dig it, therefore I don't watch it. I'm aware of the comments that he makes when he says somethin' even more backward than he usually does for people to talk about, and it ends up getting forwarded to me.

So I watch this dude who has this strange resemblance to Otto from Star Trek DS9, and Maher, just like all the rest of the liberal elites feel they are the authority on what black people are supposed to be.

It reminds me of when clean cut white frat boys would come up to me whispering, "hey brah. Do you know where we can score some kind?" And I'd be like, why the Hell are you asking me?

You're the ones who are doing it. Why don't you go find some some other clean cut white frat boys like yourselves? You just might find what you're looking for. I've stopped a long time ago for corn sakes, so scram!
Guess those liberal colleges they learn from aren't doing much to instill that deductive reasoning.

Anyway, Maher just makes my job easier when it comes to pointing out who the real racists are. The hard part is getting people to see the painfully obvious. It's like trying to point out something as obvious as figuring out how to pour pee out of a boot with the directions on the sole of it. (Thanks Pryor)

Admittedly I do generalize when it comes to liberals, but I used to be one, so there's my license. ; ) Where as Bill Maher has never been black. I'm sure according to Bill Maher I've never been black either.

In the end though, I still respect Bill Maher's freedom to say what he does, and I'm certainly free to disagree.
Read the comments as well. A few choice samples here:
From a reader in Asia:
This highlights why the media loves gangbangers and thuggish tattoo-covered basketball players; this is how black people are "supposed" to be. "Good job, Tobey, now fetch me my pipe."

They tell blacks that the system is biased against them, that tests are ethnically biased against them, that proper English is tantamount to racism, and then they... See More they tell them they cannot succeed without liberals' help--thus ensuring the black-liberal dependency cycle ad infinitum. Liberals need blacks to stay in power, but blacks don't need liberals to achieve and succeed. Worse yet, when a black person does succeed outside of the liberal plantation (which almost inevitably results in a conversion to conservatism), he is castigated as an Oreo--if not worse.

Sad thing Zo, is that the media and liberals keep selling blacks this line, AND THEY BUY IT!! It really is tragic that so many of my my dark-skinned American brethren refuse to see that they never left the slave plantation. The only thing that's changed about the modern plantation is the shape of the chains.

As a white guy, I'll never know what it's like to be black, but forgive me for saying that the concepts of right and wrong transcend skin color...they used to, at any rate. I'd love to see a modern Emancipation Proclamation freeing blacks from the liberal plantation.

Another:
Bill Maher makes me sick to even look at him much less listen to him!! He is a Liberal elitist who wants power and control over anyone who is not a Liberal, regardless of our skin color. And for some reason they seem to think that people of color will be much easier to manipulate. Those on the left just think that they are sooo superior to ... See Moreeveryone else. I am a white Conservative woman, and I was attacked by a white Liberal man, because I support The Tea Party and Rand Paul. He called me Non Christian, Racist, and Ignorant!! When I told him that the people I admire most in life are YOU, Dr. Alveda King, Rev CL Bryant, Lt. Col. Allen West and Charles Payne. He said to me that you all were probably just a few dumb blacks that the Politically savvy Tea Party threw out there from time to time!! He proved my point with that one sentence!!! That he thinks he is superior to me, and that he thinks blacks are dumb enough to be manipulated by a group that can be Politically savvy, and that they are unable to think for themselves. We love you Zo...keep up the good fight for us all, regardless of our skin color!!! AND Before the Civil War, slave owners would use one of the slaves who they trusted to hold a shotgun and watch the other slaves while they were working in the fields to keep them for trying to run away. This is the role that Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Mark Lamont Hill play for Bill Maher and the rest of the Liberals. By telling the blacks who ... See Morelisten to them that they don't have a chance, it keeps them on welfare and voting for democrats so they don't loose their handouts. They went berserk when Bill Cosby had "The Cosby Show" in the 80's because he played a successful doctor. They didn't want blacks to be inspired and believe that they could get off the handouts. They would loose control over them if they thought that they could make a living on their own. If it is true that this country holds blacks down then how did Chris Gardner become a Millionaire. The Democrat party wants to hold them down so they can harvest their vote, and they intend to do the same to the Mexicans. Rev. Jeremiah Wright preached hate and told his congregation that the Government wants to hold them down, while he is reportedly worth nearly 10 million. The hypocrisy of Him saying a black cannot make it in America while Barrack Obama and Oprah Winfrey sit in his congregation is amazing.
I believe that Sharpton, Jackson, Hill, Maher and Wright are the biggest stumbling blocks for race relations in this country and for people of color to rise up out of poverty.

Astonishing.

Good News For Conservatives

This is from an online dating site using a data set of over 100,000 people. It's fairly detailed and accurate and rather good news for conservatives, especially when you remember that enormous and aging Baby Boomer population.
