Win Another Date With Obama

This time he's springing for Dinner!

From the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee -
Providence Dinner Sweepstakes
Prize: 1-night trip for two from within the continental United States to Providence, RI, on October 25, 2010; includes dinner and attendance at a reception with President Barack Obama (ARV $1,250).

It might be me but when is putting dinner with the President into sweepstakes form presidential?

King Tut

I'll be at the King Tut exhibit this weekend so posting will be at a minimum. Don't worry, I'll tell you all about it when we get back.

Queen Cancels Christmas

But that's a good thing.

Queen cancels Christmas party, citing economic climate
And though the royal gesture is largely symbolic, the Windsors are nonetheless feeling the pinch lately. The "civil list," which covers Her Majesty's expenses and those of her husband, was frozen this year, and has not been raised since 1990, when it was set at 7.9 million pounds. The Queen has also reduced her cash outlays recently by reducing the number of chartered flights she's taken, and selling off one her helicopters, and refunding the proceeds to the British government. Royal watchers have long noted Her Majesty's personal frugality as well, such as shutting off the lights in empty Palace rooms and recycling wardrobe items from her couture collection.
She's a good Queen.

Pictures With Michelle Obama Worth $50

Yet another "sweepstakes" from the Democrats. This time from

DEMOCRATIC SENATORIAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE "RECEPTION WITH MICHELLE OBAMA"
One winner will receive the following prize package (the "Trip"):
* Two round-trip coach-class airplane tickets from an airport within the continental United States to and from Los Angeles, CA (approximate retail value $1,000) for the reception with Michelle Obama (described below). Sponsor has sole discretion as to the choice of airline, flight times, and other flight logistics and details.
* One night's stay for winner and winner's at a hotel in Los Angeles, CA the night of October 27, 2010 in a double-occupancy room or room of equivalent value (approximate retail value $300). Sponsor has sole discretion as to the choice of hotel and other hotel logistics and details.
* Admission to the Reception with Michelle Obama in Los Angeles, CA and a meeting for winner and winner's guest with First Lady Michelle Obama at the reception on October 27, 2010 (approximate retail value $2,000). Winner will also have the opportunity to have his/her photo taken with the First Lady (approximate retail value $50.00).
Approximate value of Trip package: $3,350.
Contest rules here. At least this time, you can take a guest but unlike the "Win A Date With Obama" Sweepstakes, only one winner instead of three.

Again, my stance is this is a desperate act on the part of the democrats to boost donations and mailing lists.

Win A Date With Obama?

Below is a description of a sweepstakes being offered by the DNC from www.online-sweepstakes.com The sweepstake I'm talking about here is part of the site's "premium membership" but I'm providing a link below and for the record, yes people win stuff. I, myself, have won lots of things from a TV to a family trip to Disney World to $25K. The important thing to note here, however, is just how lame this DNC sweepstakes is.
Democratic National Committee - Backstage With the President Sweepstakes
Prizes (3): 1-night trip for one from within the continental United States to Las Vegas, NV including airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation to/from airport, Admission to the Moving America Forward rally in Las Vegas, NV and meeting with the President of the United States backstage at the rally on October 22, 2010 (ARV $1,200).

This is the description from the entry form:
Go backstage with the President
Too much is at stake in the November elections for any of us to sit on the sidelines. The President is fired up -- traveling the country to make the case to voters. On October 22nd, he'll be meeting three supporters backstage at a rally in Las Vegas.

Fill out the form to the right to be registered for a chance to meet the President backstage in Las Vegas.
The lame tagline at the bottom is just priceless, "Powered by hope and supporters like you."

All this begs the question, is the DNC so desperate that they are willing to run a sweepstakes in order to collect the names and addresses of the folks who enter in order to build a mailing list for 2012? I mean, even if I liked Obama, I wouldn't risk the thousands of phone and mail solicitations that would inevitably result. Remember, politicians exempted themselves from the National Do Not Call List.

Plus, I imagine the three rubes who win will have to go through a security background check. That sounds like fun.
