SWATTing Back Grannies

Just a note on an otherwise pointlessly despicable event - When you think about it, these are local TEA Partiers protesting this Obama event. Obama: Congress may not tackle immigration soon

Why Obama should not have checked 'black' on his census form

A little paranoid but these days.... On the unintended consequences of President Obama

Go Ahead CA, Make AZ's Day

Punks in California are threatening Arizona over its recently signed Immigration Bill - Arizona immigration law: California leads call for boycotts Boycotts worked once before by CA against AZ when it boycotted Arizona's refusal to honor Martin Luther King Day.

I'm not so sure now. That boycott cost Arizona tourism dollars but AZ is already suffering a tourism loses due to the stinky economy. And cynically, California benefited because it completes with AZ for tourism and that boycott brought over 100 conventions to CA from AZ.

But that was then and this is now. A poor economy and high numbers of illegal immigrants, have made Americans more sympathetic if not actually supportive of Arizona. A boycott could make California look like a bully.

But if CA decides to go through with it, then perhaps Arizona can express its outrage at California impinging upon Arizona's right to self-governance by dialing back the taps to the energy and water supplies southern California depends on.

In its pathetic attempts to be "green", California is now forced to import much of its energy and water from its neighbors and if you scroll down through the above links pdf. forms, you'll see a lot of that water and energy comes from Arizona.

Perhaps, California might want to stick its nose into its own problems rather than economically attacking the neighbor it depends upon for water and energy.

Your Census Is In The Mail

Census mail results could be trouble for 5 states
Five states — New York, California, Texas, Arizona and Florida — are perilously close to losing out on congressional seats because of lackluster participation in the U.S. census
Interestingly, three of those sates are hemorrhaging residents due to high taxes and bad governance (California, New York, and Florida). This article doesn't appear to take that into account when it talks about a 5% trail in census mail-back rates. Perhaps the people just ain't there.

The big concern is Hispanics responding. All five of these states have large Hispanic population. Arturo Vargas, executive director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials expressed this you-have-to-laugh-or-else-you're-crying statement:
"I'm incredibly disappointed with the Obama administration in their efforts to promote the census," Vargas said, citing the government's failure to halt immigration raids during the count as it did in 2000. "It may have the impact of shooting people in the foot if Arizona ends up losing out on a House seat."
So because Clinton in his final year halted the enforcement of our immigration laws, illegals felt it "safe" to respond to the census. Now that (surprisingly) raids are continuing, illegal immigrants feel it isn't so safe.

Look, I consider illegal immigrants to be unfortunate criminals who are exploited by their employers because they have no protections as they are here illegally. I pity their circumstances and prefer to punish their employers first. Yet America needs to know who is within our borders for our own safety and for our governance. I do not believe the Census can be used to force an illegal out.

Finally, so what if a state loses a Congressional seat? That is the WHOLE POINT of the House of Representatives! It was designed to fluctuate as the populations moved around. That was the brilliance of our Founding Fathers. Just because you gained populations and therefore a congressional seat doesn't mean it is that state's forever.

Case in point, many of the states trailing in mailed-in responses to the census have had recent out-migrations of residents. If a state loses a congressional seat, that lose is its own damn fault. Correct your rotten policies and create new attractive ones so that when the next census rolls around you gain a seat.

Duh.

A Comparison of Immigration Rights

This came to me in my email and while I think it makes a point, the glaring flaw is that the countries listed a primarily totalitarian states.
LET ME SEE IF I GOT THIS RIGHT.

IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR.
IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY.
IF YOU CROSS THE AFGHAN BORDER ILLEGALLY, YOU GET SHOT.
IF YOU CROSS THE SAUDI ARABIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE JAILED.
IF YOU CROSS THE CHINESE BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU MAY NEVER BE HEARD FROM AGAIN.
IF YOU CROSS THE VENEZUELAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE BRANDED A SPY AND YOUR FATE WILL BE SEALED.
IF YOU CROSS THE CUBAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE THROWN INTO POLITICAL PRISON TO ROT.
IF YOU CROSS THE U.S. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET

A JOB, A DRIVERS LICENSE, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, WELFARE, FOOD STAMPS, CREDIT CARDS,
SUBSIDIZED RENT OR A LOAN TO BUY A HOUSE, FREE EDUCATION, FREE HEALTH CARE, A LOBBYIST IN WASHINGTON, BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PRINTED IN YOUR LANGUAGE, THE RIGHT TO CARRY YOUR COUNTRY'S FLAG WHILE YOU PROTEST THAT YOU DON'T GET ENOUGH RESPECT
AND, IN MANY INSTANCES, YOU CAN VOTE.

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I HAD A FIRM GRASP ON THE SITUATION
Now in much of the EU, illegals get the same things and the locals hate that situation as much as the average American. But still getting EU citizenship is difficult and I'd like to see what countries like Japan, India, and Australia do to their illegals (deport them I imagine).

Of course, one of the biggest immigrant hypocrite around is Mexico itself. Mexicans slam Arizona immigration law, but how do they treat their migrants?
As Mexicans decry the Arizona immigration law and launch boycotts of Arizona, Amnesty International released a scathing new report urging Mexicans to look in the mirror.

“Invisible Victims: Migrants on the Move in Mexico” details the abuse faced by Central American migrants, who cross the southern border between Guatemala and Mexico, usually en route to the US.

Each year, tens of thousands of migrants make the trip.

Many lose limbs from accidents on trains they board to head northward. Women and girls report sexual violence. And - far worse than asking suspected illegal immigrants about their US immigration status, as the new Arizona law will require police to do - many Central American migrants to Mexico accuse Mexican officials of demanding bribes or flat-out stealing their cash.

"Migrants in Mexico are facing a major human rights crisis leaving them with virtually no access to justice, fearing reprisals and deportation if they complain of abuses," Rupert Knox, Mexico Researcher at Amnesty International, said. "Persistent failure by the authorities to tackle abuses carried out against irregular migrants has made their journey through Mexico one of the most dangerous in the world."

While the email quoted above does make a strong point, America is absurdly kind to criminal invaders, the article about other countries' double-standards illuminated both America's kindness and need to hand out a little more tough love. We'd love to have you migrate here, you just have to do it legally. Period.

Opponents of New Immigration Law Boycott Arizona Iced Tea ...too bad it's brewed in New York. Idiots

Why 'tea party' defenders won't let N-word claims rest. Black congressmen's charges that they faced 15 N-word slings from 'tea partyers' in the run-up to the health-care vote tarred the movement. Will tea party insistence that the lawmakers present evidence help US move to a 'post-shame' era?
A bright line was crossed on the 20th," says Christina Botteri, a spokeswoman for the Tea Party Federation. "The left constantly attacks conservatives as racist, as dumb, as evil, but what happened on the 20th is a sitting congressman, with the full voice and credibility of the House of Representatives, accused a group of citizens with whom he philosophically disagrees of assault and then refused to help find the persons responsible. They need to help us find the people responsible or apologize for making it up."

Conservative Web publisher Andrew Breitbart has accused the congressmen of lying about the incident in an effort to tar the tea party movement. He has gone so far as to offer a $100,000 donation to the United Negro College Fund for proof. Though it appears from footage that at least some of the congressmen's entourage were filming the walk, no one has claimed the bounty.

"[This] is a slander with real-world repercussions," Mr. Breitbart asserts on BigJournalism.com.

Some in the mainstream press have conceded tea partyers may have a point. Washington Post reporter David Weigel has said the March 20 incident is a "paradigm shift" that shows conservatives how the media accept attacks on the right without doing due diligence. Politico's Ben Smith, who keeps a close eye on the tea party movement, Tweeted a response to Breitbart about the lack of takers on the bounty: "I think you've pretty much won this one, no?"
You can read the whole argument but it's really page two where the action happens.

Media still clueless about Tea Parties. One hates to quibble, since this is such an excellent article, however I believe the headline could be edited down even more to "Media still clueless".

I Gots Your Immigration Reform Right Here

Reading this from my local news website really firmed up my stance on illegal immigration:
I'll give you one guess. Here's the hint, read the paragraph below from my area news, then go ahead, guess what I'm thinking.
Frederick County authorities say a Guatemalan man who was deported twice is awaiting trial on rape and child sex-abuse charges in Frederick.
Read the whole thing here.

You're A Drooling Idiot So Do What I Tell You To

California county trims toys in meals to cut fat
You know what I find super obnoxious about this idea of banning toys from restaurant meals? Two things, one, it is specific in its targeting of a particular business and worse it assumes the parents can't raise their children.

I love those toys. I've collected some of them. I use the possibility of getting a kid's lunch toy as a parenting tool - "If you are good, I will let you have a Happy Meal."

We don't get fast food all that often and, when we do, my kids often make good food choices on their own, choosing the fruit options McDonalds and Burger King offer instead of fries.

But Noooooo.

These officious nincompoops believe they know better. That although they have the superior mental ability to not mindlessly succumb to advertising, we are all helpless before it's mesmerising messages.

Bullpoop!

I was an advertising copywriter for the better part of a decade in New York City and Richmond and I promise you - people do not mindlessly responde to advertising messages.

If people did, then we'd be seeing a lot more government-sponsored shows with "special" messages.

Advertising is a tool to present goods and services and to persuade people to use them. If you are not in the market for that particular good or service, studies have shown you do not process the information presented. And if you are in the market for a burger, then you will get a burger that suits your tastes and price-point no matter how much advertising you see to the contrary.

So when these ignoramus think they "know better" and attempt to something like a ban, all Americans should be up in arms and pitchforks because this is not about our health and safety, it is about control by withdrawing choice.

I profoundly resent the idea that I can not raise my children to make an informed choice. That is my entire goal as a parent. To teach my children to become adults who can make good and informed choices about and throughout their lives.

And sometimes a good choice is apple slices. And sometimes a good choice is a treat like french fries. And sometimes a good choice is getting a wee little toy because mommy just needs you to shut up for a minute.

The odd thing is I don't like french fries all that much. As I mentioned don't get fast food all that much. But I'm not against either, it's been very convenient for me to hit their drive through now and again. Nor do I ever wish to take that choice away from anyone else.

But as I said before, this is about control. This is about believing that "I" know better than "you". About an arrogant and ignorant group of elites believing that the average American is a drooling idiot who needs saving from themselves.

As I said before - Bullpoop!
